Larderello

Larderello is part of the town of Magliano, in the province of Pisa, in the Hills Metalliferous at an altitude of 390 m. The territory is partly owned dell'Enel. It lies at the heart of the so-called "Valley of the devil", so called because of its landscape consists of boric acid fumaroles with its columns of white vapors, and a series of pipelines external bottle geothermal steam. The town's name derives from François Jacques de Larderel, an industrialist of French origin that around 1827 perfected the effect of boric acid extraction from sludge began with rudimentary methods even as early as 1818.
